Privacy
Last updated October 2026. We’ve written this plainly because you should be able to understand how your information is used.
Who operates Someone I Knew
Someone I Knew is a product operated by LETS GRAB COFFEE, ABN 99 420 248 627.
What you give us
We collect the memory you enter about the person you are trying to find, along with any information you add in response to a follow-up question.
If you create an account, we also collect your email address and, if you choose to provide it, your mobile number.
What we do with it
We use the information you provide to interpret what you remember, decide which clues may be useful, search publicly available information on the web and present possible matches for you to assess.
To provide the service, information may be processed by technology providers that support functions such as artificial intelligence, web search, hosting, authentication, database storage and transactional email.
We do not sell your personal information or use your search memories for advertising.
Public information
Someone I Knew searches information that is publicly accessible on the open web. Public availability does not automatically mean that information is appropriate to collect or present, so we deliberately limit the types of information the product seeks and displays.
What we deliberately avoid
- We do not intentionally search for or surface private phone numbers, private email addresses, home addresses or sensitive personal information.
- We do not use data-broker or commercial people-lookup databases.
- We do not contact the person you’re looking for.
- We do not access private profiles or content that requires us to sign in as that person or bypass access controls.
- We do not make your searches visible to other users.
The person you're looking for
The person you are looking for does not need an account with Someone I Knew.
Where we show supporting information, we aim to show the public source so you can assess the evidence yourself. The service can make mistakes, and you are responsible for deciding whether a result is actually the person you remember.
If you choose to reconnect, you do so outside Someone I Knew. The service does not send messages to that person on your behalf.
Service providers and overseas processing
We use technology providers for artificial intelligence, web search, hosting, authentication, database storage and transactional email. Information you provide may be processed or stored by these providers, and some of them may process information outside Australia. We choose providers we consider reputable and share only what is needed to provide the service.
Beta quality records
During the beta, we keep a small operational record of each search so we can find and fix problems. It includes things like when the search ran, whether it finished, how many possible matches and web pages were involved, how long it took, whether a follow-up question was asked, and your account ID if you were signed in.
These records do not contain the memory you typed, the names you searched for, the search queries we ran, the contents of web pages, or anyone’s contact details.
If you choose to answer “Did this help?”, we keep your answer and any comment you write. Please don’t include private information in a comment.
How long we keep things
If you do not save a search, the search is not intended to become a permanent profile about the person.
Saved searches are retained for up to 30 days and can be deleted earlier by you. Saved people, notes and drafts associated with a saved search are removed with that search.
Beta quality records and feedback are automatically deleted after 90 days.
If you email us, we keep that correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to deal with your request, keep a record of how it was handled, and meet any legal obligations.
Deleting your information
You can delete an individual saved search from My People or delete your account from Account settings.
Account deletion is designed to remove your saved searches, saved people, reconnection notes, drafts, profile information, and the beta quality records and feedback linked to your account. If any part of the deletion process cannot be completed automatically, we will tell you rather than represent that it has been deleted.
Some limited records may remain for a short time after deletion — for example, routine system logs and backups kept by our providers, which expire on their own schedules, and any email correspondence you’ve had with us.
Keeping information secure
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access controls that keep your saved data visible only to you, and limiting what we collect in the first place. No online service can guarantee complete security, but we work to keep risks low and will act promptly if something goes wrong.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can see and delete most of what we hold about you directly in My People and Account settings. To ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct it, email support@someoneiknew.com. We may need to confirm your identity before responding, and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
Questions, concerns and complaints
If you have a question or a concern about how we handle personal information, contact us at support@someoneiknew.com. We’ll review every privacy complaint and respond to you, usually within 30 days.
If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
